Why e-solar?

Renewable Energy and Solar are high priorities for the government. The “Renewable Energy Strategy Consultation” has set a policy of 15% RE by 2020.

Currently no formal Solar qualification structure exists. In order to achieve the government targets we need to train and qualify people with the appropriate skills to support achievement of the above targets with existing and new build properties. Indications from various studies have highlighted the need to be in the region of 1 million installations over the next 3 years and rising. The current level of installations is approximately 30,000 per annum.

This approach to learning is definitely at the forefront of 21st century technological training and should therefore make learning a far more enjoyable experience for learners. As indicated previously there are costs savings on raw materials as well as creation of safe working environments to try out potentially hazardous procedures. It also supports the Government Green Agenda and provision of a revolutionary approach to learning, in addition this model could be developed for any sector to make learning more interactive and effective.

However this comes at a cost in terms of development, marketing and implementation to ensure that the benefits of this approach are understood by the sector in terms of financial and in-kind support.

Our target markets are two-fold;

a) An increase in training capacity for delivery of this provision. Our training modules will be mapped against the National Occupational Standards and therefore will be accepted by the industry.

b) Employers involved in renewable installations and maintenance. The programme would be marketed to employers supported by the Sector Skills Councils, Solar Trade Association and via other appropriate employer bodies.

This brings employers new business opportunities with both existing domestic, industrial and commercial buildings it also creates opportunities in all new build activity. Employers will be able to demonstrate their environmental responsibility through support of this business activity. The employees will benefit from learning in a safe environment, have a clearer understanding of legislative implications consolidating knowledge and understanding before undertaking practical aspects of the role. This will provide the employer with greater piece of mind due to their employee learning and developing in a “safe and controlled” environment through the use of virtual reality and interactive techniques.
